Stress. Babywearing. And the Co-creation of Knowledge.
Sep 10, 2024When you enroll in a class like Foundations in Babywearing Education and Consultation, you’re not just a passive learner; you’re an active participant. While there’s some lecture content you’ll work through on your own, our time together is all about co-creating your knowledge.
This co-creation is a cornerstone of adult-centered learning. Instead of simply absorbing information, you’re helping to shape it. Your questions, insights, and experiences don’t just add to your understanding—they enrich the learning of your peers and mine as well.
When I say “CO-CREATION” I mean this course is designed to be deliberately inquisitive. We welcome your curiosity. Your unique perspective is the driving force behind the learning journey. It’s not about being given knowledge; it’s about creating it together.
This course offers plenty of opportunities for discussion, reflection, and deeper exploration of each topic. As a result, no two classes are exactly alike. Each person brings their own point of view, questions, and life experiences, which makes every session dynamic and personalized.
Let me give you an example:
Recently, the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy issued an advisory, Parents Under Pressure: The U.S. Surgeon General Advisory on the Mental Health and Well-Being of Parents. While the advisory focuses on early childhood through adolescence, we, as babywearing educators, have a chance to make a significant impact during early childhood. Naturally, you or one of your peers might ask:
“How can we, as babywearing educators, help reduce stress for families?”
This spontaneous question would spark a discussion on stress during the perinatal period—when babywearing can be an invaluable tool. We’d dive into how and when babywearing educators can step in to assist.
From there, we’d share real-life experiences. You and your classmates might reflect on how babywearing helped you ease daily stressors like infant crying, constant attention demands, and sleepless nights. Stress is personal and varies from one family to another. Hearing these diverse examples adds to your body of knowledge and helps you become a more creative problem-solver for your future clients.
The key takeaway?
Babywearing, when implemented thoughtfully across a family’s day or week, can be a powerful tool for reducing stress.
In our class discussions, I’ll also highlight relevant research; then, we’ll dive into practical applications.
How will you introduce babywearing’s stress-reducing benefits to your clients?
When is the ideal time to bring it up?
These are the types of client interactions we’ll explore, helping you translate your knowledge into real-world support.
